Play-Action & RPO Usage

Last updated Jul 27, 2026

Play-Action and RPOs are only allowed when the run threat is legitimate. Both must remain "on schedule" and reward balance — not serve as bailout plays.

  • Allowed situations: 1st & 10 • 2nd & ≤6 • 3rd & ≤4 • 4th & ≤2 (4th-down rules permitting)
  • Not allowed: 2nd & 7+, 3rd & 5+, or any off-schedule down (1st & 15, 2nd & 12, etc.)

Offenses that stay ahead of the chains keep full access to PA and RPO concepts. Those that fall behind lose them until they reset field position.
