🏈 ESPN DOGHOUSE MIDSEASON POWER RANKINGS
Who's Built for the Stretch Run? Who's Running Out of Time?
Four weeks into the Doghouse Season, the contenders are starting to separate themselves from the pretenders. Undefeated teams are fighting to stay perfect, suspended coaches are trying to keep their seasons alive, and several preseason favorites are already staring at must-win games every week.
The numbers combine win percentage, point differential, and strength of schedule—but the story behind every team is much bigger than the rankings.
🥇 1. Penn State (2-0)
The King's Throne... Under Attack
Penn State sits atop the rankings despite playing only two games. A dominant +36 average scoring margin has carried them to the No. 1 spot. Unfortunately, the Nittany Lions have just been hit with a devastating five-game suspension. Now the biggest question isn't whether they're elite—it's whether they can survive long enough to stay in the playoff race.
Outlook: Championship roster. Season-changing suspension.
🥈 2. Texas A&M (4-0)
The Hottest Team in the Doghouse
Nobody has more momentum than Texas A&M. They're undefeated, battle-tested with one of the better strengths of schedule among the leaders, and continue stacking wins every advance.
Every week the Aggies look more like legitimate national title contenders.
Outlook: Rolling toward the College Football Playoff.
🥉 3. Georgia Bulldogs (4-0)
Business as Usual
Even with a five-game suspension hanging over the program, the Bulldogs refuse to panic. They're still undefeated, still dominating opponents, and proving championship culture can overcome adversity.
If they weather the suspension, nobody will want to see Georgia in December.
Outlook: Still one of the favorites.
4. Notre Dame (2-0)
The Irish haven't played as many games as some contenders, but they've taken care of business every time they've stepped on the field. If they stay unbeaten, they'll remain firmly in the playoff conversation.
5. Louisville (3-0)
One of the biggest surprises in the Doghouse. Louisville has quietly destroyed opponents with an average victory margin of nearly 35 points. The Cardinals are proving they belong with the elite.
6. LSU (2-0)
LSU continues winning and playing physical football. They haven't been flashy, but they're efficient and dangerous. Bigger tests are coming.
7. TCU (2-0)
Another unbeaten team flying under the radar. The Horned Frogs have handled business and remain a threat if they keep stacking wins.
8. BYU (3-1)
Respect Earned
BYU may have one loss, but they've beaten quality opponents and proven they can compete with anyone. Their resume is stronger than many undefeated teams lower on the list.
Don't sleep on BYU.
Outlook: Dangerous dark horse.
9. Ohio State (2-1)
The Buckeyes have talent but haven't quite looked like championship contenders yet. They'll need to start finishing games stronger if they want to move into the Top Five.
10. Texas (2-1)
Texas has shown flashes of greatness but still lacks consistency. One big winning streak could completely change their season.
11. Indiana (2-1)
Trying to Stay Above Water
Indiana's season has suddenly become much harder after receiving a five-game suspension. The Hoosiers have played well enough to stay ranked, but surviving this stretch will determine whether they're a playoff team or an afterthought.
12. Oklahoma (3-1)
The Sooners continue winning games, but their average scoring margin leaves room for improvement. They're solid, but another statement victory would go a long way.
13. South Carolina (1-1)
The Gamecocks haven't played much, but they've battled against one of the toughest schedules in the league. Their second half could surprise everyone.
14. Oregon (2-1)
The Ducks have talent everywhere, but they haven't reached top gear yet. They're still firmly in the hunt if they can string together wins.
15. Auburn (2-1)
Auburn continues hanging around the middle of the rankings. They're competitive every week but need bigger wins to climb.
16. USC (1-1)
Too early to panic, but the Trojans need more games and more wins before anyone starts calling them contenders.
17. Nebraska (1-1)
Nebraska has been competitive despite limited action. They'll need consistency during conference play.
18. Tennessee (1-1)
The Volunteers have shown promise but haven't found rhythm yet. Every remaining game feels important.
19. Florida State (1-1)
Still alive, but the margin for error is shrinking quickly.
20. Missouri (2-2)
An even record tells the story. Missouri has been inconsistent and needs a strong second half to climb back into relevance.
21. SMU (2-2)
The Mustangs have been competitive but haven't finished enough close games. Time is running short.
22. Utah (1-1)
Utah has played limited football so far. The Utes remain a mystery heading into the second half.
23. Michigan (2-2)
Michigan has disappointed expectations. Talent isn't the issue—execution is.
24. Florida (1-2)
The Gators have played one of the toughest schedules, but moral victories don't count. Wins need to come immediately.
25. Alabama (1-2)
Wake Up Call
Alabama isn't used to sitting near the bottom of the rankings. A losing record has put the Crimson Tide in serious danger.
If they don't get rolling immediately, there may be no College Football Playoff in their future.
26. Clemson (1-2)
The Tigers haven't looked like themselves. With every loss, the climb back gets steeper.
27. Arkansas (1-3)
Arkansas continues fighting, but close losses have buried them in the standings.
28. Texas Tech (1-2)
The Red Raiders are still searching for consistency. They need momentum before it's too late.
29. Washington (1-3)
Washington has struggled on both sides of the football. Every remaining game is essentially an elimination game.
30. Ole Miss (0-3)
Wake Up Before It's Too Late
No team has had a rougher start than Ole Miss. Three straight losses have them sitting dead last in the Doghouse rankings.
The Rebels still have time to turn things around—but they need to wake up before the season is over before it even truly started.
